Rugged Alloy Chain Construction
The D-link chain segments of Thule CU-9 9 mm Easy Fit snow chains are constructed out of durable hardened manganese nickel steel alloy (MnNi). This ensures a long life of reliable use on the road, and exceptional traction. Chains links are laid out in symmetrical diamond patterns connected by straight sections, all of which sit 9 mm above tire treads, ensuring both reliable traction and a smooth ride. Adjacent integrated tensioning parts are plastic coated to minimize user contact with frozen metal when they need to be handled. Together this allows for a superior level of traction without impacting adjacent areas along the vehicle body, or the hands of the user.
Rigid Chain Arch
Unlike traditional snow chains, Thule CU-9 9 mm Easy Fit snow chains install over the top of tire at the wheel well, eliminating the need to drive onto chains, or reach around dirty, wet tires to install them. To do this, they utilize an open section in the chain pattern, and a rigid chain arch located along the internal edge of the chain, facing the vehicle. The arch slacks open to reveal a cinchable interior along a red color-coated section at its bottom. This allows the rigid outer sheath of the arch to slip over the top of the tire, while the cinchable section remains at the lower outer front of the tire. The outer sheath of the arch contacts the interior side of the tire, as the chain links of the CU-9 cover the treads of the tire.
Self-Tensioning Central Bar with Push-button Release
Installation of the Thule CU-9 9 mm Easy Fit snow chains is completed by a unique self-tensioning system designed around a central bar with a foot activated tensioning pedal. The bar hangs from the top of the chain, down the exterior face of the tire and has three additional contact points with the pattern chain: two hooks at the sides, and one at the the bottom where the open pattern chain wraps under the tire. Once these contacts are made, users -- no matter how big or small -- use the powerful downward force of their foot to push down on the pedal until it clicks into place. This forces the pattern chain against the tire tread, pulls the outer sheath of the rigid chain arch against the interior edge of the tire, and tightens to exterior face of the chain against the tire. Users can then simply start driving. The cinchable inner section of the chain arch will reposition itself to the inner edge of the tire automatically, and all sections of the chain will optimize their position around the tire. Removal of chains are done fast, easy and clean as well, by pressing the red color-coated external tension release buttons, sliding the pattern chains towards the exterior of the tire and off the treads, and then rolling the vehicle over the cinchable section of the chain arch.
Bumpers and a Multi-use Nylon Bag
Thule CU-9 9 mm Easy Fit chains ship with simple, but effective accessories designed to add additional protection to vehicles and their drivers during use. These include, optional anti-scratch nylon bumpers that attach at outward facing chain touch points to protect the finish of alloy wheels, and a pliable nylon carry case that when not storing chains, can be used as a water-resistant rug for users to kneel on during installation.
